To strip a blade ... ( 3 months ago by nerdking81)
To strip a blade one needs to control the hand, that is the HAND not the wrist, get a good grip on the meat of the palm near the thumb, this breaks the grip. Any aikido practitioner would recognize a lot of the wrist manipulations used in this video as the kodegaeshi, ikkyo, and nikkyo wrist locks. Once the thumb is weakened we can go in to disarm the knife by using our forearm to knock the blade away or our hand to grab the knife and use it against our opponent.

now for the points your made about the bite grip and using the thumb and a little something that PG Leonard Trigg stated at one of our classes.
Balicki stresses that the bite grip is controversial, but possible. He stresses that it's a tough one to pull off but it's in the system and has been developed in the Phillipines over hundreds of years. He's just throwing it out there as a possiblity.
Finally, the thumb ... ( 3 months ago by nerdking81)
Finally, the thumb issue in number 4. I'm angry at myself for not recognizing it as it was the first knife disarm I ever learned. As for number 4, the thumb one that you are so up in arms about, the complete technique involves getting the thumb on the handle of the knife and guiding the web of the hand into the handle so that we can grab the knife for ourselves.

This is bare technique. That long and complicated series shown is just review of the various disarming techniques which were demonstrated earlier in the video. I'm a baguhan (novice) in Lameco and I recognize this. It troubles me that a so called "10th degree Black Belt Grand Master" (as your website states) who claims to have FMA experience does not recognize these techniques. As for safety, if you don't want to get cut, don't put yourself in a situation where you'll get into a knife fight.
almost forgot what ... ( 3 months ago by nerdking81)
almost forgot what PG Trigg said. A disarm should only be used once the target has been softened up a bit. We wouldn't be using this technique until we've defanged the snake a bit. Find your shot and take it. What you see in this segment of a much larger video is a series of bullets with which to take that shot.
I'm sorry if I came across as disrespectful, Sensei Mayo. I too have practiced combat jujistu and I loved it. I just get defensive when someone insults something I care about.
I too care a lot ... ( 3 months ago by eliteforcecombat)
I too care a lot about who taught me and the system I come from but, as one who people come to for life saving tactics, its my duty to do me home work. you said that you're a novice, maybe there are things you need to understand. That will come with time and yes, experience. I don't go looking for a knife fight or any fight for that matter. I believe that one should be properly Trained, equipped, and prepared for one. I don't know how many violent attacks(fights ) you've been in, continued
But I've been in a ... ( 3 months ago by eliteforcecombat)
But I've been in a few more than you in the streets of N.Y.C. as a cop in the south bronx and while growing having to defend myself against real bad guys with REAL WEAPONS!. And more importantly, I've seen people hurt and even killed in a REAL FIGHT with weapons. So yes, Its insulting for a novice to question my Grandmaster ship and what I've earned from some body who is in my opinion wet behind the ears. Meaning no real combat experience. If you do have some, then my mistake.
Finally, I just ... ( 3 months ago by eliteforcecombat)
Finally, I just want to say, The system I come from even has it flaws. there is none that is full proof. I do understand a lot more than you think. Every one will respond to an attack differently and that's the truth. like I said. when that fear factor sets in those fine motor skills go out the window. Not every one is looking to reach some high status or rank in the arts. people need to know does it work and will it get my ass home. Forget rank, get to the level of "understanding" Train hard!

True, but if ... ( 1 month ago by remalion)
True, but if someone is gonna stab you and you are willing to risk smaller cut then bigger, it's not too bad to know this. Besides, if you manage to disarm her/him, you take knife and show them how stabbing is properly done. Like 50+ times or so while still holding there hand :-)
Sifu Balicki is a ... ( 1 month ago by MushaTetsujin)
Sifu Balicki is a very well respected Martial Artist in Escrima and JKD. The disarms shown are advanced and praticed thousands of hours to gain proficiency at street attack speeds. Yes there is always something beter. It would be better to not have criminals, it would be better to have a superior weapon against a knife attack but if you only have hands it "is better" to learn the empty hand techs from one of the best knife fighting systems out there to combat a knife attack.
this is slightly ... ( 1 month ago by LordofKamarra)
this is slightly watered down filipino knife defense because the art was made to kill, so when he first deflection past the leg, that would be a slash to the leg/stab to the femoral artery, but this is good for day to day defense if u dont want a death on ur hands. good vid!

true that, but if u get the right three places they will be gone within 3 seconds. well, i dunno the timing, but quite quickly

That is WAY too complex for something that can be done in mere seconds. Looking at just one video is good enough for me to say that KM is better and easier to learn.
may grandmother is ... ( 2 weeks ago by ice163)
may grandmother is one of the last binukot here in panay island in the philippines. she can literally trace back to 12 century the roots of the traditional martial arts of our tribe. it is actually called "kal heh" not kali (at least in old kinray'ah language). it saddens me that foreigners knew this even though its only the basics. the advance part is called dumugay or one w/o a sword..and the most advance is the one w/ the yawyaw or cutter string yoyo

Yea I am an Aikido practioner myself. I think Kali/Escrima would be an art that most Aikidoka after training some time could learn to use quite effectively along with there Aikido.
