Erm... sooo... how do the uneducated masses vote now?!
Don't you mean so ... ( 3 weeks ago by LastCynicStanding)
Don't you mean so they would right? Because that's what they do.
Not to mention the popular vote has been ignored quite frequently recently. Not to mention the New Hampshire primary events that you will never hear about on the news or read about in the paper.
Seriously, I wish I could believe that votes counted in our system of corporate slavery. It must be a comforting delusion to subscribe to.

I'm not talking about today, 'were'. The original intention of the electoral vote was as such.

Oh well, ya. There is no reason for this system to remain though. We not have the tech to count everyones vote. The only reason to have the electorial college (the most important part of the electorial process that was somehow omitted from this crappy documentary) was that we could not count everyones votes in time. This is not the case now but the college remains because it is easier to pay of a few than it is to pay off a lot.

You can't really pay off the electoral vote, the state's share is given to the political party who wins the popular vote, and they sure aren't going to risk their votes on someone who may be influenced by the opposing party. Believe me I have met one of the electors, he was a teacher at my school and ran the Democrat party's fund raising and such in St. Louis a few years back(don't know if he still does). Fanatic doesn't even begin to describe this guy.
Him being a fanatic ... ( 3 weeks ago by LastCynicStanding)
Him being a fanatic is you reason for trusting the voting system? Forgive me for saying that is not a very strong argument against the obvious manipulation of what was once a government of the people. Possibly if government policies did not rob people then I might be more accepting of that ideal.
Inflation only exists because it takes wealth away from the population every year. As long as it continues then the system is still corrupt. It is that simple.

I still don't quite understand what you are mad at, the popular vote or politics in general? I don't think we are on the same page. The political party who win the popular vote wins the electoral votes for that state. If there is something wrong with the voting system it is in the popular vote: miscounting, misrepresenting, or misplacing votes. Not the Electoral College in itself.
I don't even think ... ( 3 weeks ago by LastCynicStanding)
I don't even think we are reading the same book.
When people tell you the simple problems with the world it does not mean they are mad. If you have a hard time understanding me then just ask questions, but please stop the finger pointing. If anything would bother me about this topic it would be the large number of naive people in the USA that think they still have a voice in their government. These people that do not know who their members of Congress are and yet condemn me for not voting.
I am with you on ... ( 2 weeks ago by xcadet)
I am with you on that, but people simply don't care anymore, their most basic function in not going to change drastically depending on who is voted into office. Don't quote me on this as I am going from memory but this year congress had an approval rating (by the people) of around 12%, but it has consistently been shown that around 92% of those in office will be re-elected. Sad bit of info really.
People in the ... ( 2 weeks ago by LastCynicStanding)
People in the voting lines do not know policy. They are utterly brainwashed into voting for catch phrases by the media. They are coaxed to sleep by videos that explain half truths.

should be 1 vote per state.

That is the thing; there shouldn't be any Electoral College. If popular vote were the method of electing the president, this country would have a much much much much much better track record.
Indeed, only three ... ( 1 week ago by Atheist2007)
Indeed, only three candidates have become president without having received the majority of the popular vote. Thus, the current voting system cannot be that bad.

the reaoon for the electoral college -i guess- is to have a balanced weight and if we did it by votes only then there will be some disputes and variables (understandable) but i think the other reason is because the rule was made in the early years of the U.S. it was too hard to count all the votes but now that we have electronics we might change it someday
That is a matter of ... ( 2 days ago by xcadet)
That is a matter of opinion. So far there have only been 3 elections in which the popular vote did not win the electoral vote: 1876 Hayes over Tilden, 1888 Harrison over Cleveland, and 2000 Bush over Al Gore. But I believe you are only talking about Bush winning the election. But hey, he was elected again wasn't he? Hooray for democracy!
