i agree kali and silat are one in the same family as Filipinos and Indonesians are brothers. what make kali, kali is its development and its adaptation of fencing (escrima)...

very much the same yes the spaniards did change the name of it. Bahala na Escrima(To Strike), Kali, and many other styles have originated from the filipino fighting systems.

kali? heard the word for the first time... i'm pretty sure thats not bisaya.... aw kali-bang nuon kahibaw ko pero ako pangutana ang uyo-an sa akong mama kung unsa na nga pung, wala man siya kahiba ana! iya hinu-on gisumpayag libang and that makes sense.... kali maybe is fabricated by mr. presas... and i totally agree with dr. nepangue about the history of FMA kay kakita ko sa historical fencing, ilang ilog anggid-anggid ra sa eskrima.

The Philippine Islands also has a Malay culture and was once part of a kingdom that ruled the islands of Malaysia, Indonesia and some part of Thailand. The art of Kali and Silat has alot of similarities and the only difference is what it is called today. Kuntaw and Silat are being practiced mainly in the mindanao islands that has similarities with the art of silat in Indonesia. The kingdom of Borneo settled in the Panay Islands so what made you think that they are very different?
